A 69-year-old woman from the Netherlands has died after she was infected with COVID the day before she cycled in the country.
The woman was found in a park in the city of Zeeland in southern Belgium on Tuesday morning.
She died from COVD-19, according to the national public health agency (NRW).
The woman’s partner was in a vehicle when she went to a local park to spend time with friends, said Johan van der Hoeven, an NRW spokesperson.
A woman was also found with symptoms of COVID.
The woman had travelled from Brussels and was later taken to a hospital in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, where she was pronounced dead.
The Netherlands is the only European Union member state to have its citizens vaccinated for COVID and is also home to the world’s only national COVID prevention programme.
